Obituary of Betty Engel

Betty Engel, 85, of Mansfield Township, formerly of Washington Township, died peacefully at home with her loving family by her side, after a 5 year battle of breast cancer that metastasized to bone cancer. Betty was born Baukje Mulder on July 14, 1934 in Pingjum, the Netherlands. In 1954, she immigrated to the US to meet up with the love of her life Dewey Engel who immigrated here one year prior. Betty was a homemaker for her 5 children taking on babysitting and cleaning jobs until her children were older, she then took a job at M&M Mars in Hackettstown retiring in July of 1992. She was always around to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Betty enjoyed traveling, crocheting, cross-stitch, gardening, collecting dolls, going to her grandsons' college wrestling matches and college football games and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is predeceased in death by her parents, Rintje and Johanna Mulder, her loving husband, Dewey, who passed in 2011, her sister, Gretel DeBoer who passed in 2018, son-in-law Archibald R. Fisher, Jr., who passed in 2001 and a cousin, Frances Panza, who was like a sister rather than a cousin. Surviving are her children, Patricia A. Fisher-Dally and husband, Gerard; Diane Engel-Folks; Ronald D. Engel and wife Candy; Brian J. Engel and wife Helen and Brenda J. Bonners and husband Jay. 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Sisters, Ann Diehl, Mary Kerekes, and Henriette Lugo and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also survived is a cousin, Betty Burham, who was also more like a sister than a cousin. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday July 10, 2020 from 5-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington. NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday July 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Drive, Newton, NJ 07860, OR a charity of your choice.
