Obituary of Harold E Musselman

Harold Edward Musselman, 98, of Washington Township, Warren County, NJ passed away peacefully on August 21, 2020 at home, surrounded by his family. Harold was born in Honesdale, PA on December 27, 1921 to the late Albert and Mabel Shook Slutter Musselman. Harold grew up in East Stroudsburg, PA graduating from East Stroudsburg High School in 1940. He started college at East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College until he was drafted into the US Army during WWII. He served as a Corporal in the 272nd Field Artillery Battalion. Harold saw action in Africa, France, Belgium and Germany. His unit, Battery A, was engaged during the Battle of the Bulge and later witnessed the German army surrender. After WWII, Harold completed his Bachelor's Degree in Education at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He married Kathryn Alice Steiner in 1947, taught school 2 years in East New Market, Md., then completed his Master's Degree at Penn State before moving to Washington, NJ. Harold taught Earth Science and Biology at Washington H.S. and Warren Hills Regional H.S. from 1951 until his retirement in 1979. He also served as head of the Science Department. During the summers of 1960-1966 Harold was a Forest Ranger for the State of NJ at Worthington State Forest. Following retirement, he worked for Frank Rymon & Sons and Rossi Chevrolet. His Wife Kathryn passed away in 2004. He was a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington. He was a Boy Scout Committee Member for Troop 157 for more than 30 years and Silver Beaver Award Recipient. He was a member of the American Legion Post 103 in Washington, and the Mansfield Masonic Lodge No. 36, GEM VAC Veterans in Glen Gardner, and Project Horses for Forces in Long Valley. Harold is survived by a son, Paul Musselman; Daughters, Alice Musselman Orr (William) and Carol Musselman Kain; Grandchildren Craig Orr (Rebecca), Katherine Brunnegraff (Matthew), Phillip Orr and Patrick Kain; Great Grandchildren, Makayla and Nathan Orr, and Jackson Brunnegraff. In addition to his wife, Harold was preceded in death by a son-in-law Daniel Kain; Siblings, Samuel Slutter, Garner Slutter, Earl Slutter, Pauline Slutter Grover, Lawrence Musselman and Wallace Musselman. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday August 26, 2020 from 4-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington. NJ 07882. Internment and Graveside services will be celebrated on Thursday August 27, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Laurelwood Cemetery, 901 Bryant St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
