Obituary of George F Matheis

George F. Matheis Sr., 72, of Franklin Township, NJ passed away on August 26, 2021 at St Luke's Warren Hospital surrounded by his family. He was known by his friends as "Squirrel". George was born on June 26, 1949 in Jackson Heights, NY to the late Frederick and Florence "Schwamberger" Matheis. George graduated from Washington High School class of 1967. He proudly served in the US Army, 4th Armored Division called "Hell On Wheels" during the Vietnam War. George was employed as a black seal boiler operator for Rexham in Flemington for more than 43 years until his retirement in 2007. He was also a former member of the Franklin Fire/Rescue Squad. He was past president for 8 years and current board member of Rolling Thunder Inc. NJ 3, past board member of Golden Arrows Motorcycle Club in Phillipsburg and he was also an Endowment member of the NRA. He was an ambassador for veterans and their organizations. George loved all animals, especially horses and dogs. He loved his Country, guns and motorcycles. On top of loving Oldies, Country and Bluegrass music. Above all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. George is survived by a a son, George F. Matheis Jr. and his wife Lisa; a daughter, Genevieve Bucher and her husband James; his girlfriend, Diane Malanga; a stepson, Thomas Malanga; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth Matheis, George F. Matheis III, Emilie Matheis, Gracie Bucher and his king Doberman Kaiser. George was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Matheis in 2015. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday September 1, 2021 from 3-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorials Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Graveside services will be held on Thursday September 2, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the Montana Mountain Cemetery in Harmony. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's name to Rolling Thunder NJ Chapter 3. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
