Obituary of Devra A. Parks

Devra A. Parks, 91, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021. Devra was born on January 25, 1930 in Passaic, NJ to the late Samuel and Carol (Sills) Schneider and was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Schneider. She graduated with a teaching degree from Montclair State Teachers College in 1951. Many will remember Devra as a caring and inspiring teacher who taught for over 40 years including at Taylor St. and Memorial Schools in Washington. She retired in 1995. Devra loved watching game shows, enjoyed gardening and was an expert at growing tomatoes. Devra was an incredible musician who was proficient at guitar, accordion and especially piano. She loved games, her favorites being bridge, chess, word games and the occasional game of tetris. Devra was a huge science fiction buff who especially enjoyed Dr. Who, Lost and Star Trek. She founded a sci-fi group that met regularly for over 25 years! She also loved science and subscribed to a number of magazines including Discover and Astronomy. As a single mom on a teacher's salary bringing up four children, she sometimes worked two jobs to make ends meet yet always kept an amazing sense of humor and wit. She loved animals, was a lifelong pet owner and donated regularly to animal-related charities. Devra is survived by a daughter, Shawna Parks Glover; her son Glenn Parks; son John Parks his partner Han-Fei Lin; son Warren Parks and his wife Kristin; and grandson Jeremiah Glover. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday October 16, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington. Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Inurnment will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
