Obituary of Helmut Anthony Schwalje

Helmut Anthony Schwalje, of Franklin Township,NJ (Warren County) passed away peacefully, at home, with his loving family at his side on October 22, 2021. Helmut was born on June 7, 1942 in Arad, Romania to the late Joseph P. and Magdalena (Klug) Schwalje. Helmut and his wife Doris (Hulik) enjoyed travelling. Their cruising included Alaska, the Caribbean, the Baltics and the rivers of Europe. He also enjoyed road trips to Newport, R.I., Nova Scotia, and Florida. Helmut began his career with Nicholas Schwalje Mechanical Inc., and retired from CWA Local 9 Plumbers and Pipefitters. After attending Purdue University, he was an instructor at Local 9 and the Mechanical Contractors Association. He was instrumental in re-writing the plumbing codes in NJ. He was Vice President of Operations at Sylvan Inc. and was a project manager for Donald C. Rodner Inc. and Unicon before retiring in 2012. He was industrious, ambitious, bright and committed to improve the industry. Helmut was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Joseph and his brother-in-law Peter Kurzhals. He is survived by his wife Doris, two daughters, Denise Palladino and Nadine Schwalje, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Philip (Kathie), Frank (Peggy) and Madalene Kurzhals, and sister-in-law Anne and many loving extended family members. In accordance with Helmut's wishes, all services will be private.
