Obituary of Burton Schelling Jr.
Burton "Burt" Schelling Jr., 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2025, at St. Luke's Bethlehem Campus.
Born on November 16, 1952, in Newton, NJ, Burt was the son of the late Burton and Leanora (Stafford) Schelling Sr. He attended Warren Hills High School and went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1976, Burt married the love of his life, Debra Decker, with whom he would have celebrated 49 wonderful years of marriage in August.
Burt dedicated many years of his career as a chemical operator at USR Optonix in Hackettstown before retiring in 2012. A devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, he was thrilled to witness their victory in Super Bowl 59. He was also a a big New York Yankees fan and an avid Civil War history enthusiast, especially enjoying visits to Gettysburg. In his spare time, Burt loved reading, playing quoits, watching Jeopardy and most of all, spending cherished moments with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren.
Burt is survived by his loving wife, Debra; his daughters, Carissa Peterson (Brian) and Monica Styles (Matt); his brother, Thomas Schelling (Marilyn); his sister, Diane Marsh (Richard); and his four adored grandchildren, Kenzie, Morgan, Kaylee, and Matthew.
Family and friends are invited to a time of remembrance on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2540 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.
