You were a good Man Mr. Cassin. We shared many laughs together over many Poker games. You were a wealth of knowledge and an vivid story teller. You have left a lasting impact on history and on anyone who has had the privilege of knowing you.
I will be sure to have some Ishka Baha in your memory.

So sad to hear of Denis's death. I remember the day he arrived in New York at NAIJ, shortly after Malachy McGurran and Brigid Bond. My best friend, Nora Buckley and I took him to the Central Park Zoo.
So many good times, so much hard work for Ireland. We all believed that Ireland would finally be free and we would be a part of it.
Denis and Cathy were godparents to my daughter, Nora, attended christenings for Fiona and Brendan. We visited and they visited until I could no longer contact them.
I will miss them greatly and am so grateful to Sarah for making his last year a very good one.

Denis and Cathy at my First Communion. Even though I was little, I remember the party afterwards in the back yard as super fun.

As national organizer for the Irish Republican Clubs, U.S. and Canada, Denis Cassin worked tirelessly to inspire hundreds of people in clubs stretching from NYC to southern California.
It wasn't always an easy (or even possible) task. The Republican Clubs drew many interesting and highly intelligent people with slightly different points of view on history, current campaigns and the right path for the future.
Yet Denis moved nimbly among the membership, charming, cajoling and, when necessary, confronting people. He was highly respected for his solid republican credentials, but he was loved for his warm, generous nature.
The care he received from his niece and her family in his final months is inspiring and heartwarming. He remains well and fondly remembered by his comrades, and it was good that he found that out indirectly at the end of his life.

Paddy Smith of Newry says that both he and Denis Cassin are in the photo here handcuffed together being herded like animals onto a Royal Air Force Helicopter to be transported to the prison ship HMS Maidstone in Belfast harbour after being arrested and interned without charge or trial in 1971. "Blessed are those who hunger for justice..."

Denis Cassin, blackthorn stick in hand, Marshal of the Easter Rising Commemoration Parade in Armagh city. Every inch the proud Irish Rebel. (Think this was 1968) Behind him march a contingent of Belfast men led by the legendary Jim "Solo" Sullivan.
