Patti Sue was the first person we met 30 years ago -houses still being built so no next door neighbors. Hearing a knock on the back slider we looked to see and there stood this beautiful woman with a huge smile and two dimples holding a plate of brownies. as she welcomed us to the neighborhood.
She was truly a remarkable woman. We are so very sorry for your loss.

She was the brightest of lights my entire life, and I knew her since she was born! So kind, and caring and loved to laugh and wished everyone joy. She lived her faith. Hard to believe she is gone, Peace and comfort to all who knew and loved her. Our lives are much richer because she was part of them. Thank you Patti.

In many ways it was an unlikely friendship.
I had babies, she was beginning to raise teenagers.
I told her I would not let her know if her kids had a party, she said she would ALWAYS let me know.
I have a potty mouth, I’m not sure I ever heard her swear.
We had different views on religion and politics, and yet we were friends, very close friends.
We both loved decorating, entertaining, holidays, any form of shopping, our kids and each other.
As is often the case with women of strong opinions, sometimes we disagreed. Sometimes she annoyed me and sometimes I annoyed her!
But I always knew I could count on her. Her generosity, willingness to listen, comfort when needed, and offer advice were the hallmarks of her friendship.
I know I’m not her oldest friend and maybe not the closest, because Patti Sue has so many people who love her, of which I am just one. Our friendship might not have made sense on paper, but it did in our hearts, which is of course the place that matters.
I will miss you my friend.
Love, Jill Morrow

Dear John, Amy, Colleen, John Patrick and all the Rolak family, It has been an honor to call Patti Sue and John our friends. We first clicked a few years ago at the St. Joseph’s Couples Club. We have enjoyed the privilege of getting to know Patti Sue and her welcoming and loving spirit. Whether we were going to dinner or enjoying a play, Patti Sue would always find someone she knew and would engage in friendly conversation. She had a beautiful smile that would welcome all. And even while battling her own illness she was always concerned how others were doing. She will be imprinted on our hearts forever. God bless you all and may you find peace in your memories and knowing she is in the loving arms of our Lord. All our love and prayers, Barbara and Dick Aquino

Patti-Sue was one of the nicest people I have ever known. It was always a pleasure to see her. I enjoyed her positive attitude and welcoming smile. We often shared a little chuckle over my love of her beautiful white SUV. I will forever miss her and her wonderful smile. We will meet again in God's house.

What a beautiful tribute to your Patti Sue. We remember her bright smile and how it could light up any room. We attended many dance club events and envied your parents as they would glide across the dance floor, clearly as one. Our prayers are with the family at this most difficult time.

My heart aches that I am unable to be with all of you today. Not to say good bye to my beautiful friend, but to honor her the way she deserves.
Patti Sue and I met in kindergarten in 1953. We were much too young then to know what was ahead for us. What was ahead, was a 67 year friendship filled with endless stories. Stories about happy times such as, boyfriends, girlfriends, summer vacations together, double dating, our Holy Communion, Confirmation, graduations, showers, weddings, having babies and the list just keeps going.
There were sad times we shared as well: sickness, loss of parents and other cherished family members.
By the time we were in fifth grade, Patti and I were the tallest in our class at Holy Name School. Even taller than all the boys, so we were always partners when the nuns marched us from one place to another…..similar to the little girls in the Madeline books. We became so close that I was somehow adopted by the Beirne and Aronio families. My family in turn adopted Patti Sue…they simply loved her!
I was the only girl in my family so Patti became the sister I wanted so badly!
Patti’s house on Gerard Avenue became my second home. I loved Grandpa, Mom and Dad Beirne, Tommy……even Shamus and Tiger!
Patti and I went to separate high schools, she to East Orange Catholic and I to Glen Ridge HS. We remained very close and attended Friday night recreation at GR HS, double dated, got our drivers licenses, studied together, sang together with “Up With People and discovered shopping. We did love shopping!
In the blink of an eye it was college. This is where Patti Sue met the man of her dreams! The perfect husband! She loved him immediately; he was her prize, the man she so richly deserved. In their sophomore year they introduced me to another John, the man of my dreams! Our first official double date was Patti’s 20th birthday. I will always be grateful to my friend for that introduction.
We were both blessed to have beautiful weddings, and then came babies. We were both young mothers living miles apart and pretty lonely. We spent hours on the phone! Back then being on the phone was not cheap. Needless to say, we were all on a tight budget. However, we convinced our two Johns that it was either we talk on the phone, or they pay for a psychiatrist! The phone won!
That is just a thimbleful of our young lives. Unfortunately, after PattiSue and John moved to Washington, we didn’t see each other too often. When we did, it was always for the best party, with the best food, many, many guests and the greatest hostess. Patti put Martha Stewart to shame! She took the utmost pride in her beautiful home and everything else that she did. She and John worked so well together at every family function. In fact, they worked well together at everything!
My mind has been racing for days trying to figure out what to say to all of you about my friend. I was so blessed to grow up with her, we were all blessed to have had her in our lives. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Christian and proud of it. She had Immeasurable love for her children and raised them to have great morals and values.
Rest In Peace my brave, beautiful friend!

The measure of a person regardless of birth is not how she died but how she lived; and not what she gained but what she gave. Dear Pattie Sue's contributions to our community are immeasurable and our loss is immense, She was a wonderful woman who showed us what it means to live life well. John, please accept our deepest condolences. We share your grief at this difficult time. May God strengthen you and your children as you face the days without Patti-Sue. We will all miss her.
