Obituary of Alfred J. Patane

Alfred J. Patane, 95, of White Township, NJ passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. Alfred was born on April 23, 1925 in Bronx, NY to the late Rosario and Mary Patane. He was preceded in death by his siblings Edith Hacker, John Magnani, and Olga Noonan. He was a graduate of McKee High School in Staten Island, NY class of 1943. Alfred proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life Miriam (nee: Koffer) in 1954. After serving his country, Alfred went on to serve his community. He was employed as a police officer with the NYPD Precinct 120 in Staten Island, NY prior to his retirement in 1975. After his retirement he was a drug and alcohol counselor for the North Hunterdon/Voorhees Regional and Matawan School Districts. Alfred was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Hampton, NJ. He was the last known surving "Plankowner" member of the USS Okanogan (APA 220) commisioned in 1944 of which he served on. He was a member of the American Legion in Belvidere and past member of the American Legion in Glen Gardner, NJ. Alfred was also a member of the retired NYPD-PBA. He was one of the founding members that planned the US Navy reunion for his ship the USS Okanogan (APA 220) which saw service in three military wars. In addition to his devoted wife of 66 years, Alfred is survived by his loving children, son, Brian J. Patane and daughter, Susan E. Deremer and her husband Fred. His cherished grandchildren; Carissa E. McCaughey, Elizabeth A. Patane, Kelly S. McCaughey and Allyson M. Patane. He is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lois Patane. In abiding with Alfred's wishes services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to celebrate the Holy Mass in his honor at Saint Ann's Catholic Church 6 Church Street, Hampton, NJ 08827 Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
