Obituary of Johann P Barends

Johann P. Barends, 79, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ passed away on October 27, 2021 at the Clover Rest Home, Columbia, NJ. Johann was born on June 20, 1942 in Easton, PA to the late John and Anastasia LaPorta. She was a graduate of Washington High School class of 1960. It was here that Johann met her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Simon Barends. Johann was an avid camper and enjoyed to watch many of the different crime shows on TV. She helped organize the baking fundraisers for the Washington Redskins in the 1970's. Johann cherished the time she spent with her dog, Zana, and all the moments she spent with her beloved grandchildren. Johann is survived by her children; Lisa Wahler and husband Frank, Brian Barends and wife Sharon, and Mark Barends. She also leaves behind her four siblings; Frank Laporta, John Laporta Jr., Elaine Burd, and Kathy Devoto. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Justin and Daniel Barends. In addition to her parents, Johann is predeceased by her loving husband, Simon Barends, who passed in 2019. A memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington NJ 07882. A Memorial service celebrating Johann's life will begin at 4:00 PM inside the funeral home. Burial at Musconetcong Cemetery will be held privately on a future date.
