Obituary of John H. Jack Smith
John H. "Jack" Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital with his wife by his side.
Jack was born on February 26, 1938 in Phillipsburg, NJ to the late Charles C. and Erna (Quietszch) Smith. Jack graduated from Washington High School class of 1956. He earned his Business degree from Churchman Business School in Easton, PA. He married his High School sweetheart, Jean Morgan in 1959. After graduating, Jack went to work in the Family Businesses of Smith Motor Co. (est. 1925) and Smith Tractor in Washington, NJ which were founded by his father, Charles C. Smith. Since 1965, Jack led the businesses with the help of his two sons. He was still active in the businesses until his death. Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. He was a Mason and a member of the Mansfield Lodge #36. Jack attained the degrees of a Shriner and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed hunting and traveling. Jean and Jack enjoyed vacationing in Jupiter, Florida and Stone Harbor, NJ with their family. Farming was a passion of Jack's. He owned farms in Knowlton Twp and Harmony Twp, NJ. As an avid sports fan, Jack enjoyed watching sporting events, especially NASCAR, NY Giants football, SF Giants (NY) baseball, High-School and College wrestling and more. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean; daughters, Lori Fitzgibbon and Lisa Dunn (Jeffrey); sons, Jeffrey M. Smith (Susan) and John C. Smith (Anne) as well as 9 grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his brother Albert Smith and his grandson Jeffrey Dunn.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday March 22, 2022 from 11 AM – 12 PM at the United Methodist Church of Washington. 116 East Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Jacks life will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday at the church. A private interment will be held at Montana Mountain Cemetery.
