So sorry to learn that Pence has passed. Although I only ran into him occasionally as we got older, I have fond memories of us as kids growing up in Asbury. We all had lots of fun together, with Pence and Gary, playing baseball, looking for arrowheads, playing in the big snows, especially playing baseball, just being kids. He was one of the nicest people ever. To Gary and Laura and Joanie and children, he’ll always be with you and in your hearts. Smile with the memories. God bless you all. Some of our fondest memories of Pence include raising our children together in Franklin Township. Pence was a coach on various sports teams our sons participated in and taught the rules of fair play both on the field and in life. We will always remember our annual Halloween parties when both the kids and adults wore creative costumes and celebrated together. We still have one of the styro-foam and pipe cleaner spiders our kids made at one get-together that we bring out annually to this day! We remember how proud Pence and his brother-in-law were the year they won a state award for the wine they made from the Bing cherries in our front yard. Pence had a way of bringing family and friends together that was truly special and we will miss him always.

I only knew Pence as a child when we were growing up together, but my memories are of a fun-loving, free- spirited boy who led his Illinois cousin on such adventures as visiting the Asbury cemetery at night or demonstrating how to make a door slam in the deserted schoolhouse from a considerable distance away. We visited a local stable where we decided a horse mistook his red hair for an apple and tried to nibble on his crewcut. Whatever we did, we always had great fun, and it sounds like from reading other memories that spirit stayed with him throughout his life.

You always treated us like family and not as "the inlaws". You trated our daughter as your own, and for that we are eternally grateful. I know you are looking down on your family with love for now you are pain free. See you on the other side my friend
Love. Angelo and Jeannie
