Obituary of H. Betty Lake
H. Betty Lake, 93, of franklin Township, NJ passed away peacefully on July 7, 2022 at the Brakley Park Care Center.
Betty was born on March 3, 1929 in the family home in Washington, NJ to the late Orville L. and Florence "Johnson" Rupell Sr. Betty graduated from Washington High School class of 1946. Betty was an accountant for more then 40 years who owned and operated 5 separate H&R Block franchises in Washington, Hackettstown, Clinton, Belvidere and Blairstown. Earlier in her life she worked at the porcelain factory in Washington. Betty was a lifelong member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and founded the church thrift store. She was a founding member of the Hackettstown chapter of the Soroptimist International of the Americas, where she served in many capacities at the local, state and national level. She enjoyed volunteering her time to help others. She was a school crossing guard. She was a member of the Franklin Township Welfare Board and the Warren County Board of Elections. Betty loved to travel. Her adventures had taken her to all 50 states, the Caribbean, all of Europe, Asia and Egypt. Betty was also a recipient of the Warren County Senior Hall of Fame.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Betty Shemonsky and her husband Marty; a son, W. Peter Lake III and his wife Karla; 6 grandchildren Jack (Sharon), Jeffrey, RandiLynn, Heather (Joshua), Karl (Christine) and Patrick (Sean); 8 great grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Colin, Lincoln, Blake, Vincent, Moira and Elijah. Betty was preceded in death by her husband W. Peter Lake Jr. and 2 brothers Orville L Rupell Jr. and Lewis Rupell.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday July 13, 2022 from 12-1 PM at the Broadway United Methodist Church. 2233 State Route 57 West. Broadway, NJ 08808 (mailing address Washington, NJ 07882). A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will begin at 1:00 PM at the church. Interment will be private at the Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Betty's name to the church.
