Obituary of Irene Brownell

Irene Brownell, 62, of Broadway, NJ passed away after a brief battle with cancer on December 3, 2022 at St. Luke's Bethlehem Hospital, Fountain Hill, PA. Irene was born on December 9, 1959 in Phillipsburg, NJ to Raymond G. Farley and the late Gertrude Burham Farley. She was a graduate of North Hunterdon High School class of 1978. She worked as the court administrator for the former Central Warren Court, Lopatcong Township Court and most recently Mansfield Township Court House. Irene also served as the court treasurer for the Municipal Court Administrator Association of New Jersey. She volunteered as member of the Franklin Township Rescue Squad for 40 years, where she held every title from Crew Chief to Captain. Her popularity with the squad was so great people would consult her before calling the squad. She was the vice chair and treasurer of the 13th District First Aid Council of New Jersey. Irene was also a proud member of the Eastern Star. Irene founded a team and played softball for many years in the Warren County Women's Softball League. She was part of the YahYahs of Franklin Township, which was group of women that she dearly loved, founded by the late Valerie Riggs. Irene loved and adored animals of all kinds whether it was petting dogs, horses, goats, or playing with cows. Her laugh was infectious and always brought joy to any room she was in; she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Irene is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, John Brownell Sr. and their son, John Brownell Jr., grandchildren; Ty, Troy, Trent, Travis, and Treyton, brothers; Christopher and Raymond Farley, and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother, Irene is preceded in death by her son, Jason Brownell and her brother, Eddie Farley. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Washington Alliance Church, 2112 NJ-57, Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Montana Cemetery, Harmony, NJ.
