Obituary of Shari Mahon

Shari Planthaber Engel Mahon, 57, formerly of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Shari was born in Heidelburg Germany to George Planthaber and the late Diane "Cronx" Hicswa. She grew up in Clifton, NJ before moving to Washington, NJ. She graduated from Bergen County Technical High School class of 1985. She was employed as a Direct Care Aide at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, NJ for more than 27 years. She was a loving mother and best friend to Krystle, She worshiped and adored her grandchildren while spending aimless times having sleepovers, playing games, doing ongoing crafts and spoiling them. She loved spending time talking on the phone with friends and shopping. She was an avid 49er's fan. She was an avid gardner and loved her flowers. She loved watching The Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, Law and Order and HGTV. Shari owned more shoes than she knew what to do with, especially her sneakers. She loved her dog Abby and her cat Ava. Shari was a former Washington Boro Ladies Auxiliary member and Bunco player, she bowled at Oakwood Lanes. Shari enjoyed vacations, and traveling especially back to Germany the place of her birth. Shari is survived by her Companion David Bennett, a daughter Krystle Engel; her fiance Dave Beers, siblings, Jeannie Planthaber companion Thomas Kadi, Donald Hicswa, Kelly Inperiale and Elizabeth Sadej and 6 grandchildren, Hailee, Kaydence and Haven, Addilynn, Clark and Ezra. Along with many nieces and nephew. In addition to her Mother, Shari was also preceded in death by her step-father Andrew Hicswa. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday August 17, 2023. 5-9 PM and again on Friday August 18 2023 from 11 AM – 12 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Shari's life will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Summerfield Cemetery.
