Obituary of Ronald P Haase

Ronald "Ron" Haase entered into eternal rest at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 26 days at his home in Stewartsville, New Jersey. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 17, 1943 to Henrietta and Robert Haase. Ron spent twenty years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief. His naval career included multiple deployments to the Southeast Asian theater during the Vietnam War. He served on various naval vessels during his career, including the USS Betelgeuse, the USS Nitro and the USS America. Other deployments included: Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; the Philadelphia Naval Yard, where Ron was a boiler instructor; and in New Jersey as a naval recruiter. Ron was a true American hero who willingly answered the needs of his nation at a turbulent time in history. After his service to the country, he worked and retired from both the United States Postal Service and Exxon-Mobil. While working as a recruiter for the United States Navy, he met the love of his life, Barbara McCormack Cowley. They married in 1981 and lived a very happy life together until Barbara's untimely passing in 2013. The children he and Barbara loved were his real passion and the greatest joy of his life. Ron was known for his love of family, generosity of time and love of pets. His mother remarried when Ron was five and he became the role model and protector for his younger siblings. He took the time to share, coach and nurture his family. His favorite pets were Cleopatra, his kitty and Oscar, a Dachshund that Ron taught to hunt. The bond between Ron and Oscar was unbreakable. One can imagine them side by side hunting in the fields of Heaven. Ron's loving spirit will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. Ron is survived by his step children Peter, Joanne, Scott, Duane and Glenn Cowley along with their spouses, and their extended families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, both parents and an older brother, Robert Haase, formerly of Georgia. He is also survived by: his sister Sharon Privatera of Sun City Center, FL; step-sisters Charleen Williamson of Harrisburg, PA, Jeanne Hart of Litchfield, ME and Cheryl Shaffer of York, PA; and step-brother Charles Williamson of Red Lion, PA. Service to be held at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882 on Wednesday August 23rd. Gathering at 11:30am, service at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to… Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Center, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Warren Hills Memorial Home.
