Obituary of John R Barrett

John R. Barrett, 61, of Clinton Township, NJ passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ surrounded by his family. John was born on January 28, 1962 in Elizabeth, NJ to Joseph Sr. and Joan "McDevitt" Barrett. He grew up in Warren, NJ and graduated from Immaculata High School class of 1980. He earned his business degree from Mount St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, MD. John was employed as the Senior Vice President of US Complex Risk Property at NFP. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick – Hunterdon County and a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd degree. John loved his bass boat and bass fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and was also a talented cook. John enjoyed many trips with the Boy Scouts where he and his children experienced many adventures spanning from sailing the Florida Keys, to camping in blizzards. When John wasn't watching the History Channel (with his eyes closed) he could be found refinishing a kitchen or bathroom for fun (somehow these projects were always "15 minutes to an hour tops"). John was the type of man who made sure the people around him were taken care of, whether that meant a phone call for advice or a hot meal on the dinner table, he always ensured everyone felt welcome and cared about. Most of all John loved being a proud father of 4 children. John instilled values in his children that are made evident by his eldest son's ability to help others in a crisis, his eldest daughters shared passion for work, his youngest son's incredible intelligence and passion for medicine, and his youngest daughter's talent and passion as a nationally ranked equestrian all wellbeing a Freshman at Immaculata High School. John was loved by many, and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents ; Joe Sr. and Joan Barrett, John is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marin; his 4 children and their spouses, Christopher Barrett (Michelle), Elizabeth Perhach (Jack), Thomas Barrett (Monica Mooney) and Jeri Rose Barrett; his siblings, Joseph Barrett Jr. (Grace) and Patrick Barrett (Leigh -Ann) and 2 grandchildren, Abigail Barrett and Emma Barrett. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday January 26, 2024 from 4-8 PM at the Warren hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. 316 Old Allerton Rd. Annandale, NJ 08801.
