I was lucky to live next door to Lou and Barb in the early nineties. During that time, Lou and Barb became like second parents to me. I treasure memories of taking walks with Lou and Max, putting together jigsaw puzzles in their den, having tea and eating some of Barb’s yummy spice cake in their cheerful kitchen. Lou was kind, generous and soft spoken, I never heard him say a harsh word about anyone. He had a fierce love and sense of wonder for the natural world and was a great steward of his land and the surrounding woodlands. I always learned something on our walks together, the name of the bird or plant we passed, the history of a stone bridge we crossed. Many years have passed and physical distance separates us now but I still consider Lou and Barb dear friends and the best neighbors - ever!

My sincere condolences to Mr. Stout's family .. may you find peace in your many warm memories. I met Mr. Stout several years ago when he hosted a walking tour of Belvidere (for his family members) with a stop being our house, his childhood home. It truly was a pleasure meeting him and the family. -- Adrienne Waeschle (Belvidere)

Barbara. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this most difficult time. I know Lou meant so much to our family. Friends for such a long time. Mom would always treasure the homemade Christmas cards that Lou would design and draw from scratch featuring his dogs that he had throughout the years. Heaven has definitely gained another Angel!! May god bless. Rest in peace Lou!!

Barbara & family I am so sorry for such a lose. Lou was a wonderful. One of my Dad Speedys great friends. One of life's best safe truck drivers. When I lived in Vandalia Illinois with my Dad's trucking terminal there Lou stopped to see our family operation & laughed that I drove truck too. God bless him & your family. I still remember your Mom n Dad too. You're all in my prayers
