Obituary of Shirley M. Covert
Shirley M Covert, 86, of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024 at the Lopatcong Care Center, Surrounded by her friends and family.
Shirley was born in Warren Hospital Phillipsburg, NJ on November27, 1937 daughter of her the late beloved parents, Gilbert H. Getchius and Geneva Weilamann, Getchius Shive. Shirley's beloved husband Lawrence David (Pat) Covert passed away on February 27, 1991. Shirley and Pat were married on January 7, 1962 in the Washington United Methodist Church. Shirley and Pat were married for 29 years until his untimely death in 1991. Shirley lived in Washington her entire life. She graduated from Washington High School class of 1956 and from Warren County Community College with a Medical Assisting Certificate in 1997. Shirley was employed for many years in retail, as a manager for Allen's Shoes Store and a sales clerk at Cohen's Department Store and Levine's Shoe Store. She was also employed at Elco Hemming. Shirley was also a caregiver for many local families. Her last position was with Plaza Chiropractic Inc. retiring in 2006. Shirley was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Washington. She was a 52 year member of the Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star #136 and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Belvidere, NJ. She was also a member of the Warren Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered at the Warren County Board of Elections. Shirley enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She spend many years researching her family geology, including the Weilamann, Caldwell, Getchius, Covert, Reit, Jones and Beam families, some dating back to the 1500s
Shirley was known to many as Aunt Shirley. She is survived by a niece, Kyle Vishnesky, lifelong friends Bruce and Pam Brunner also many cousins and friends.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday April 8, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A Funeral Service celebrating Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Greenstone United Methodist Church. 116 E. Washington, NJ 07882. Interment will follow at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ.
