Obituary of Alice Thompson
ALICE GROVES THOMPSON
Born August 13th 1922 in Somerville, NJ to the late Alex and Evangeline Groves.
Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Washington NJ, where she was resided until her death.
Alice never had a middle name so she would make one up
For example: Alice May…Alice May Not Alice May Have…
Though we called her Grama Alive, some called her Aunt Alice, Cousin Alice,
I believe the people in Washington called her Avon Alice Tupperware Thompson or Friend Alice.
Alice attended Washington elementary school and Washington high until her Jr year. BUT she was no longer a "drop-out" because she went back to school for her high school diploma and graduated with the class of 2008.
Alice was married in 1939 to the late Leroy Thompson who passed away in 1957.
They had six children: Four that are deceased Raymond, Cynthia, Chester, Edward Arnold and two surviving LeRoy Thompson and Roberta Jane Colabaugh.
Alice's work history was with American Can Company from 1952 to retirement in 1986. During her time at American Can, she served Human Relation Committee.
After retirement, Alice worked in the Polls during Elections.
Alice was a faithful member of the Mt Pisgah AME Church in Washington NJ.
Alice served as a choir director, Sunday school superintendent/teacher Missionary,
She also was a long-time member of the NAACP.
On the day of her 80th birthday celebration, the mayor recited a proclamation and named August 10th Alice Thompson Day in Washington New Jersey.
On Independence Day 2022 the town of Washington elected Alice of the "Grand Marshal" She celebrated by being in the 4th of July Parade. She so enjoyed that.
We have so many memories of our Grandmother, like chasing after "hot air balloons and firetrucks"…Cousin Hooky Day with Grama. Church Trips to Dorney Park. American Can Picnic at Bushkill Park and the most famous. Pajama Day…just to name a few..
On April 26th 2024, Heaven sent Angels down and gave Grama her wings.
Besides her children Leroy and Roberta Jane, She also leaves behind 3 Daughter In Laws June, Carol and Connie Thompson. 19 Grandchildren,
36 Great Grandchildren and 29 Great, Great Grandbabies and her special TV watching, old movies with her buddy D.G.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday May 4, 2023 from 10 AM-11 AM at the Faith Discovery Church. 33 Brass Castle Rd. Washington, NJ 07882.
