Obituary of Shirley A Wright
Shirley Alice Wright, 88, fondly known as Shirl or Grandma Shirl to friends and family, went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2024.
Shirl was born on December 26, 1935, in Hampton, NJ to the late Harry and Alice "Byerlee" Laube. She grew up in Hampton and was a member of North Hunterdon High School class of 1953. She married her soulmate Charles Wright on April 17, 1954, and this year they celebrated 70 years of marriage. Shirl was employed by Koh-I-Nor in Bloomsbury for many years prior to helping manage the family business, Wright Heating. She was a long-time parishioner of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington. Shirl was a life member and past President of the Washington Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of The Outlaws Lunch Group. Shirley enjoyed her annual trip to Wildwood, NJ with friends for the NJ Fireman's Convention. Shirl was known for her famous peanut brittle that she would give away during the holidays. She also enjoyed competitive pie baking, crafting, vacationing on LBI, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events, concerts and other performances.
In addition to her loving husband Charlie, Shirley is survived by her children, Jeff Wright (Laura) and Jolene Foley (Doug); her grandchildren, Lauren Umbrell (Chris), Jeffery Wright (Bea Delgado), Douglas Foley (Katherine), Patrick Foley (Kaitlyn) and David Thatcher (Stephane); Her best friend Janet Quigley. 4 great grandchildren and a 5th due in December. A brother In-law Robert Gibson and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, Dona, and Home Instead Care Pros, Consuelo, Johanna, Lori, Doreen and Alison for the care and compassion that they gave Shirley.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday August 12, 2024 from 10 AM – 12 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Washington 40 East Church St. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Shirley's life will begin at 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Shirley's name to First Presbyterian Church of Washington, 40 East Church St, Washington, NJ 07882, or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Drive, Newton, NJ 07860, www.karenannquinlanhospice.org
