MERTON "MERT", 89, March 12, 2013. Mert passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, of Washington Twp., formerly of Springfield PA. Born in Upper Darby PA, on April 17, 1923, to the late Ralph and Emma McLean Prior to retiring from Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia as a Computer Engineer Mert also worked as a Safety Engineer for Fels Naptha, an Agricultural Engineer at Allis Chalmers Tractor Co. He also worked for Ogden Foods, Philco Ford, RCA and Liberty Mutual in Macungie. He earned his BA in Agricultural Engineering from Penn State, his BS and MBA in Engineering from Drexel. Mert served his country proudly during WWII in Army Air Corps. and earned a Purple Heart for wounds he received in Northern France and 2 Bronze Stars for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield PA Survived by 3 sons, Steve and Kim (Davis) McLean, Mark and Thia (Wagner) McLean and Doug and Karen (Gilligan) McLean; and 8 grandchildren Rebecca Ogden (Matthew), Crystal, Joshua, Elizabeth Hoffman (Peter), Samantha, Tyler, Morgan and Kathryn McLean; 2 great grandchildren Sophia and Anna Ogden; a sister, Hazel Wadsworth; and a sister in-law, Marie Killian Predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years Miriam passed away in on March 14, 2012. Mert had many interests. He enjoyed model trains, cows. He loved Phillies baseball and Penn State football. He owned over 1,500 books. Visitation Friday, March 15th, from 10 to 11 A.M., First Presbyterian Church, 356 Summit Road, Springfield, PA 19064, followed by Funeral Services 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave, Newton, NJ 07860. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to WARREN HILLS MEMORIAL HOME. 234. W.
