Obituary of Roger Provencal
Roger Joseph Provencal, 72, passed away at home on May 27, 2014. Roger was born in 1942, in Hartford, CT to the late Virgil and Rosealma (Caya) Provencal.
Roger graduated in 1960 from Manchester High School in CT and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1964. Roger proudly served in the United States Army, advancing to rank of Captain. He worked in private industry at Reynolds in DE and nearly 40 years in Hackettstown at Elastimold (a division of Thomas & Betts).
Roger married JoAnne LaBarron on August 29, 1964. Together they lived in GA, TX, AK, DE, and NJ. They enjoyed countless camping trips and travels "out West." They drove the Al-Can Highway as newlyweds and made several cross-US road trips.
Roger was active in the community of Washington since moving here with JoAnne in 1969. He spent many years as an active leader with the Boy Scouts and served on the Washington Borough School Board, including a tenure as Board President. He was a volunteer for Warren County Habitat for Humanity. Roger was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus (St. Joseph Council) and a parishioner at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Mansfield. He enjoyed gardening and could often be found at the Washington Community Garden tending his plots. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, and watching the NY Yankees.
In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Rebecca Miller Provencal, and a granddaughter Sabrina Anne Provencal.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, JoAnne, his daughter and son-in-law Christine and Cliff in AZ, his son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Maggie in NH, his son Leo in HI, his daughter Mary Jo in NJ, his son and daughter-in-law Tony and Joan in MA, his treasured grandchildren Danny, Mary Colleen, Brian, Alexis, Shannon, Elena, Owen, Jimmy, Michael, and Stephanie, his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Ray in SC, his brother and sister-in-law Tom and Marilyn in CT and FL, his brother and sister-in-law Don and Cathy in CT, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Monday June 2, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday June 3, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, 855 Route 57, Port Murray, NJ 07865.
