Obituary of George M. Brands

George M. Brands, 83, of Oxford Township, New Jersey died Monday April 26, 2010, at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ. Born: March 29, 1927 in Mt. Bethel, PA, he was a son of the late Samuel and Lucy Bartow Brands. Personal: George was a graduate of Belvidere High School, who was active in the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 141 of Belvidere, NJ. He served in the Navy in World War II on the U.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt and received the American Theatre and Victory Medals. In 1986, George retired as a Service Engineer from Ingersoll Rand Co. Cameron Pump Division after 39 years of employment. His hobbies included dancing, hunting, playing golf and traveling to Florida with his wife Arlene. Memberships: George was a former member of the Colonial United Methodist Church, Oxford Hunting Club, Masonic Mansfield Lodge #36 of Washington, NJ, Tall Cedars, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors: He and his wife, the former Arlene Melberger celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary September 10, 2009. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Brian, his wife Suzanne Schott Brands of Washington Twp., NJ and Brent, his wife Janice Grillo Brands of Oxford Twp, NJ; and six grandchildren, Scott, Nicholas, Lauren, Stacey, Kyle and Taylor Brands; and a brother Richard Brands of Mt. Bethel, PA. In addition to his parents, a sister Shirley Brands and a brother Samuel Brands, all died earlier. Services: Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
