Lawrence "Larry" Richards, 88, of Oxford, NJ went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 26, 2012. Personal: He attended Washington High School and received his GED after serving in the US Army during World War II. Larry bravely fought in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge and served during the occupation of Germany. Larry retired from M&M Mars after working there for 25 years. Larry enjoyed speaking at area schools about veterans affairs. Memberships: He was a member and five time past Commander of the VFW Pohatcong Memorial Post 6701 in Washington, NJ. Past District Commander of District 20 Warren County, member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 103 in Washington and Past Commander of Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge. Larry was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Washington, NJ for many years. Survivors: He is survived by step-granddaughters, Sherrie Smith and Dawn Smith both from Allentown, PA.; also sisters, Harriet Gawrilowicz and Louise Karl of Washington, NJ; as well as nephews, Stanley Runyon, James Runyon, Richard Lockwitch and his wife, Tina, and Charles Gawrilowicz and his wife, Terri; a niece, Eileen Goldstein and her husband, Barry; and great nieces, Ashley Gawrilowicz and Jennifer Gawrilowicz. He was predeceased by his parents, Esther C. and Arthur Richards; his first wife, Gladys Wirth Richards; and second wife, Catherine Cooper Richards; a step-daughter, Fayann Smith; sisters, Marjorie Runyon and her husband, Stanley, Jeanette Lockwitch and her husband, Richard; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Gawrilowicz. Services: Friends and family may call on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Washington Alliance Church, 2112 Route 57 West, Washington, NJ 07882.
