Obituary of Frank A Felitti
Frank Felitti, 93, of Washington Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2015.
Frank was born on December 24, 1921 in New York City to the late Pietro and Vincenza Felitti.
A resident of Washington Township, NJ for 30 years, he formerly resided in Old Bethpage, Long Island and New York City. He joined the US Army in 1942 and served during the Second World War in Europe. On Christmas Eve 1944, Frank's 23rd birthday, he was aboard the troopship Leopoldville when it was torpedoed and sank in the Cherbourg Harbor, with heavy loss of life. He considered himself blessed to have survived the disaster, and continued to serve until 1946.
After the war, Frank married Rose Morena in 1946. He worked as a Bank Manager for Chemical Bank (now JP Morgan Chase) in Manhattan for 40 years until his retirement in 1985 - working his way up from a teller to Bank Manager and Assistant Vice President. While working, he earned his Associate's Degree in 1968. While his children were young, he was actively involved in Little League baseball and served as league president in addition to managing a team. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bowling, singing, dancing, and playing the piano. Frank loved NY Yankees baseball. A devout Catholic all his life, when he moved to New Jersey he became an active member of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the couples club, social club, and the church finance committee. He could always be found volunteering on Bingo night. Frank joined the Knights of Columbus in 1941 and was a member of the St. Joseph Council 5170.
His beloved wife of 66 years, Rose, passed away in 2012.
In addition to his wife, Rose, Frank was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Wolk and Isabel Accardi, and brothers Anthony and Nicholas Felitti. He is survived by his daughters Diane Lehnert, Barbara Felitti and her husband Wayne Curley; sons Frank Felitti and his wife Barbara Wielandt, Peter Felitti and his wife Ann Kuta; and grandchildren Kristeen Lehnert and Rob Lehnert.
