Obituary of Florest Gentile

Florest "Florio" Gentile 84, passed away on Sunday morning July 14, 2013 surrounded by his wife Lena and his daughter Sherry. Florio was a lifelong resident of Middlesex, NJ for 80 years before moving to Washington in 2009. Born: Florio was born on November 17, 1928 in Bound Brook, NJ to the late Arthur and Sarafine Gentile. He was also predeceased by his son Arthur Gentile, his brother Louis Gentile, his niece Lisa Gentile and his nephew Louis Gentile Jr. Personal: Florio served proudly in the US Navy during WWII, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway in the North Atlantic. After the war Florio became a General Contractor and started Florio Construction Company in Middlesex. He is known for creating the first building in Middlesex that housed medical offices, the first pharmacy, and a hardware store. He continued in this field and also started a commercial roofing company until 1989. Retirement was not all it was cracked up to be. He decided to return to work for Beecham Pharmaceuticals in 1992 and retired for a second time in 1997. Florio was a creative handyman who could fix anything. He loved purchasing land for investment purposes. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening and cultivating his fig trees. Florio loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren (he was a great role model). He will always be remembered for his kind and caring ways, his ability to communicate with everyone and anyone, along with his devotion to his wife, family, friends and country. Memberships: He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin in Middlesex, NJ where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Middlesex Elks. Survivors: His devoted wife Lena of 63 years; his beloved daughter Sherry Dell Elba and her husband Bob; a brother Arnold Gentile (wife Nancy); six grandchildren, Michael Dell Elba, Matthew Dell Elba, Catherine Dell Elba, Michael Gentile, Leanna Gentile, and Sarina Gentile and; two great grandchildren Brianna Gentile and Isabella Espiritusanto; and several nieces and nephews (Linda, Fred, Joanne, Mike, Brian, Tracy, Renee, Arnie, Debbie, Tecla and Phillip). Services: Friends and family may call on Saturday July 20, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and again on Sunday July 21, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday July 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Virgin 600 Harris Ave, Middlesex, NJ 08846.
