Obituary of Myrtle Martenis

Myrtle Martenis, 95, of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2018.
 

 Myrtle was born on May 25, 1922 in Newark, NJ to the late Thomas and Gertrude Dean. 
 She was a graduate of All Souls Hospital Nursing School in Morristown, NJ where she earned her registered nursing degree.  She married the love of her life Arnold Martenis in 1944.  They celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing in 2004.  Myrtle was employed as a registered nurse and throughout her career she worked at hospitals and doctor offices.  Prior to her retirement in 1982 she was employed by Dr. Prasiner’s dental office for 23 years.  She was a life member of the Ladies Auxilialry for the Chester Fire Department, Community Nurse, Member of Chester First Aid Squad and Chartered Member of St. Lawerence Rosary Society.  Myrtle was very active throughout her life. After retirement, she and her husband Arnold moved to North Port, Florida.  She was a member and choreographer of the Parkettes Tap Dance group where she would visit nursing homes and perform for the residents.  She loved golf, Arts & Crafts, painting on canvas, fabric and wine glasses.  She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.  Her talents in crafting included making Tiffany Lamps which she was most proud of.  Myrtle was also an "accomplished musician" on the KAZOO and enjoyed sipping a Manhattan at 5 o’clock.
 

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lynda Burns and her husband Randall, her cherished grandchildren, Marc Burns and Barbara Burns and many loving nieces and nephews including: Joanne Dean, David Dean Thomas Dean and Trudy Rockefeller Biesantz.  In addition to her husband Arnold, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Martenis, a sister Gertrude Rockefeller, a brother Kenneth Dean and nephews John Jack Dean and Marc Dean.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday June 1, 2018 from 6-8:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at The Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 85 Pleasant Hill Road, Chester, NJ 07930. All friends and family are invited for a celebration of life following the service.

 In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Myrtle’s name to: the Chester Fire Department 80 Main Street Chester or the Washington First Aid Squad 100 Belvidere Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
