Obituary of John E Shaffer
John "Jack" Shaffer, 93, passed away peacefully at Chelsie of Brookfield on September 10, 2018.
Jack was born on December 4, 1924 in Altoona, PA to the late Edward and Sarah Shaffer.
Formerly of Marshalls Creek and East Stroudsburg, PA and Middlesex, NJ. Jack was raised in Altoona, PA but joined the US Navy when WW II broke out in 1941. He served as an Electrician's mate 3rd Class in the Navy. After the war he was employed as an electrician with Local 102 in Parsippany, NJ. His loving wife Rita passed away in 1993. Jack was a parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church in E. Stroudsburg. He was a member of the American Legion in East Stroudsburg, PA and the Pocono Irish American Club. Jack also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.
He is survived by his caring grandson, Scott Hofsaess and his wife Rebecca. Great grandsons, John and Dylan Hofsaess. In addition to his wife Jack was preceded in death by a son, Donald Shaffer and a daughter, Kathleen Farley.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday September 13, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882 and again on Friday September 14, 2018 from9:30 – 10:30 AM at St Matthew's Catholic Church. 78 Ridgeway St. East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will be at Prospect Cemetery in East Stroudsburg, PA.
