Obituary of Elbert J Skoog
Elbert J. Skoog, 84, of Washington Twp, PA formerly of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on September 12, 2017 at Easton Hospital
Born on December 26, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John Skoog and Frieda "Pfister" Skoog.
Elbert grew up in Broadway, NJ. He graduated from Washington high school class of 1952. Elbert married the love of his life Gloria "Lommason" in 1953. He graduated from the New Jersey Police Academy, Sea Girt, NJ in 1957. He served proudly in the US Navy aboard a mine sweeper in a harbor defense unit during the Korean War. Elbert was employed in Law Enforcement for 49 years, retiring from the Washington, NJ Police Department after 28 years, the last 18 years serving as Chief of Police. He then served 1 year as Under Sheriff in Warren County, NJ. He also worked for the Warren County Prosecutors Office as an agent for 20 years. Elbert was a member and past president of Washington Borough Fire Department Steamer Co #1. He is also a member of the NJ Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a Master Mason of the Mansfield Masonic Lodge #36 for 58 years. He was a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, NJ. A life member of the New Jersey State Chief of Police Association. Life member and past president of the Warren County Chief of Police Association. He served on the Washington, NJ planning board. A member and past president of the Washington PAL. He was the Warren County Civil Defense president. He also served as the Police Coordinator for Warren, Sussex and Hunterdon Counties. He was a Boy Scout leader for the Explorer Troop and coached midget and pony league baseball teams in Washington. Elbert was an avid fishermen and hunter. He was a member of Trout Unlimited Forks of the Delaware.
In addition to his loving wife of 64 years Gloria, he is survived by a daughter Nancy Skoog; Sons Roger Skoog and his wife Victoria, Larry Skoog and his wife Ann. 4 grandchildren Dr. Victoria Marie Skoog, Dr David J. Skoog, Steven Skoog and Kyle Skoog. Elberts wife, children and grandchildren were the love of his life. In addition to his parents. Elbert was preceded in death by a sister Bernice Laird.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday September 16, 2017 from 9:30 AM � 12:00 PM. at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882 Interment, military honors and committal services will follow at 1:00PM at the Belvidere Cemetery
